Tracing its roots back to the original Olympic games, track and field has evolved into a sport on the cutting edge of the 21st century sports scene. Team USA has established itself as the World's #1 Team. But track and field is more than just an Olympic sport. USATF also sanctions numerous track and field meets for all levels of competition, including youth and masters athletes.

The Georgia Track & Field Committee is charged with supervising, controlling, coordinating, and encouraging Track & Field activity for women and men, over the age of 18, including:
Track events - running events conducted on a 400 meter track - from sprints up to 400m; middle distance to 3,000m; and long distance to 5,000m. Other events include steeplechase, hurdles and relays.
Field events - throwing events that include shot put, hammer throw, javelin, and discus; and jumping events that include high jump, pole vault, long jump, and triple jump.
